Blessed Assurance
How long has it been since you’ve been "lost" in God’s love?
1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine![1]
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation[2], purchase of God,[3]
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.[4]
[1] assurance that Jesus is mine is indeed a wonderful foretaste of what is to come.
[2] refers to how we are co-heirs with Christ, in terms of the inheritance that awaits us.
[3] we have been bought with a price, washed in the blood of Jesus as our atonement.
[4] these wonderful truths should lead us to praise our Savior all the day long!
2 Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture[5] now burst on my sight;
Angels descending bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. [Chorus]
[5] this phrase carries extra meaning when knowing that the songwriter (Fanny Crosby) was blind from infancy; she said she would not trade her blindness for anything, because, “it’d mean the first face I would ever see would be my Savior’s”
3 Perfect submission[6] - all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love[7]. [Chorus]
[6] refers to our surrender to His perfect will. When we do that, indeed, we can be at rest (which is a blessing & brings happiness)
[7] meditate: being so overwhelmed and enveloped by the love of Christ that everything else fades into the background. Self-focused thoughts, worries, and distractions diminish.
Take a moment today to focus on God’s love for us, and not be afraid to be enveloped and lost in that.
